WITH STYLE: Known for his ability to make the spectacular
catch, Johnson twice won fan voting during the '04 season for the
Levitra Play of the Week Award, joining Philadelphia's Donovan McNabb
as only two-time winners. Johnson earned Levitra Play of the Week
for an acrobatic 36-yard TD catch Nov. 21 vs. Pittsburgh, and for
his game-winning four-yard grab Dec. 26 vs. the NY Giants. Though
it didn’t win an award, his diving 53-yard TD catch against
double coverage on Sept. 12 at the NY Jets was hailed by QB Carson
Palmer as "the best catch I've ever seen on a ball I threw
in my entire football career." And on Dec. 5 at Baltimore,
Johnson made a tough, over-the-head catch for 22-yard gain to the
Ravens 9 with 0:30 remaining, setting up Shayne Graham's game-winning
FG.
DYNAMIC
DUOS: Along with his considerable individual accomplishments,
Johnson has paired with different Bengals teammates the past two
seasons to set marks for tandem receiving. In 2003, Johnson and
Peter Warrick set team records for most catches (169) and yards
(2174) by a pair of Bengals receivers in a season. In 2004, Johnson
and T.J. Houshmandzadeh broke the tandem yards mark with 2252 and
fell just one short of the tandem catches mark with 168. And on
Dec. 5, 2004 at Baltimore, Johnson and Houshmandzadeh combined for
the most catches (20) and yards (332) by any pair of receivers in
the same Bengals game (Houshmandzadeh 10-171; Johnson 10-161).
