Colorado Rockies Information
  • The Colorado Rockies played there first season in 1993, and are named after the mountain range that surrounds there home city of Denver, CO.
  • The Rockies originally played at Mile High stadium before moving to Coors field which had a seating capacity of 43,800. In 2001 the park increased its seating to accommodate 50,445 fans. In the stadium, fans have a nice view of the Rocky Mountains that are off in the distance.
  • On April 9, 1993 Eric Young in his first Major League game, in the first game at Mile High Stadium, hit the first home run at the Stadium. The game drew 80,227 fans, the most ever to witness a baseball game.
  • The Rockies have only made the playoffs once; as the Wild Card team after the 1995 season.
  • In 1998, Mile High Stadium was the site of Major League Baseballs All-Star Game.
  • In 1997, Rockies outfielder Larry Walker won the National Leagues Most Valuable Player Award.

<p>Closer Huston Street, who converted 35 of 37 save opportunities last year, is dealing with inflammation in his right shoulder, saying his condition has improved and the situation is normal for early in spring training.</p> <p>Street has thrown four times in spring training. He threw three bullpen sessions, the second 10-minute outing being the most intense, and then threw 10 minutes of batting practice Feb. 26. He said he felt "normal" coming off the mound but "was pretty stiff" the next day.</p> <p>Street then rested for two days. Although Yorvit Torrealba&#39;s son is safe, the San Diego Padres catcher still fears for the rest of his family. Nine months after his son was kidnapped by five men in Caracas, Venezuela, and later returned unharmed, Torrealba said his son and wife are now living in Miami and adjusting to their new lives.


Greinke goes 3 scoreless as Royals top Rockies 5-0 (AP)
Zack Greinke was far more pleased with his first start than with the three innings he threw for the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies. Nonetheless, he extended his scoreless streak this spring to six consecutive innings, allowing two hits in that stretch. Rockies name Ubaldo Jimenez Opening Day starter (AP)
Colorado Rockies manager Jim Tracy named Ubaldo Jimenez his Opening Day starter on Wednesday. The assignment had been expected since the start of spring training. Tracy said he waited until the day after Jimenez had a strong start to make it official. He pitched three scoreless innings Tuesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Jorge De La Rosa picked up right where he left off last season. The Rockies starter tossed three scoreless innings, and Miguel Olivo had three hits and three RBIs in the Colorado&#39;s 5-4 win over the San Diego Padres on Monday. De La Rosa, who was 16-8 with a 4.38 ERA in 33 games last season, limited the Padres to a hit and a walk while striking out two in his first start of the spring.

Next time, maybe Ubaldo Jimenez will just take the team bus. Held up by a traffic jam, Jimenez arrived too late to start Friday and instead made his spring training debut out of the bullpen for the Colorado Rockies.
