Information
2002 Season-The
Padres featured a very young and talented team in 2002, but injuries
hurt them all year long. The Padres finished the season in last
place with a 66-96 record. 2003 Season- The 2003 season started
off on the wrong foot, with their top hitter Phil Nevin, and their
top pitcher Trevor Hoffman beginning the season injured and they
stayed that way for most of the season.
The Padres
finished in last place with a 64-98 record but they had reason
to be optimistic for 2004, where they would be moving to a new
stadium and they had recently acquired standout outfielder Brian
Giles from the Pittsburgh Pirates. 2004-Season- The Padres had
a better, healthier team in 2004 and had a chance to win the NL
West. They finished the season 87-75, 6 games out of first place.
The team had two pitchers to finish with 15 wins, and Trevor Hoffman
had 40+ saves. The 2004 season gave the Padres a lot of optimism
for 2005.
<p><p>The thousands of Dodger fans who drove 120 miles south from Los Angeles to witness Manny Ramirez's return Friday night ticked off a lot of Padres partisans—even if the surge produced only the third sellout of the season at Petco Park.</p>
<p>But don't count Tony Gwynn's kid among the upset.</p>
<p>Gwynn has a novel idea for the Padres. Want to have big crowds pulling for the Padres? Win.</p>
<p>"It was no different than any Padres-Dodgers game," said Tony Gwynn. "We like playing in those types of games, but we also like winning those types of games.</p> <p>"From right field, it sounded like it was 50-50, but the bottom line is when you are not winning ballgames, people aren't going to come out to see you play.</p> <p>"If we don't like it, then we have to win more ballgames."</p>...
Manny Ramirez is back in the big leagues. His bat might soon follow. Returning from his 50-game suspension for violating baseball's drug policy, the Los Angeles slugger barely hit the ball out of the infield in the Dodgers' 6-3 win over the San Diego Padres on Friday night. He did provide a lot of energy to the team with baseball's best record.
It looks like Padres manager Bud Black is going to get a contract extension. Despite having an overall losing record in three seasons, Black apparently has done enough to impress new CEO Jeff Moorad, the head of an ownership group that has acquired 35 percent of the team from John Moores. An extension for Black is "likely at some point," Moorad said in a text message to The Associated...
You had to see it to bee-lieve it. The Houston Astros -- who once had the "Killer Bs" -- had to wait out a 52-minute bee delay before finishing their 7-2 win over the San Diego Padres on Thursday. The delay, which came with two outs in the top of the ninth, certainly gave a new meaning to getaway day.
Talk about adding a late-inning buzz to a ballgame. Thursday's game between the Houston Astros and San Diego Padres was delayed for 52 minutes in the top of the ninth inning Thursday when a swarm of bees took over part of left field at Petco Park. A beekeeper was called the downtown ballpark and sprayed a chair and a ballgirl's jacket that had attracted the bees.
Twenty-five years after drawing interest from the New York Mets coming out of high school, Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman is dabbling in baseball again. This time it's as a part owner of the San Diego Padres. Wearing a Padres jersey with his familiar No. 8, the former Dallas Cowboys star threw out the ceremonial first pitch before Thursday's game against the Houston Astros.
Manny Ramirez will be back in big leagues on Friday night after a 50-game suspension for violating baseball's drug policy. His return should be nothing short of a spectacle. It'll be the start of the Fourth of July weekend, and thousands of blue-clad Los Angeles Dodgers fans are expected to be at sold-out Petco Park to support the dreadlocked slugger in the opener of a three-game series...

Adrian Gonzalez was in the starting lineup for the San Diego Padres a night after straining his right knee while sliding into third base. The first baseman said he convinced manager Bud Black that he was OK to play against the Houston Astros on Wednesday night. "Buddy came in the training room and I ran around the training room and showed him I can play," Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez left with a strained right knee during San Diego's 4-3 victory over the Houston Astros on Tuesday night and it's uncertain whether the All-Star first baseman will miss any time. "We'll see how I wake up," said Gonzalez, the Padres' top hitter.</p><br clear="all" />
Adrian Gonzalez suffered a strained right knee in the fourth inning of the San Diego Padres' game against the Houston Astros on Tuesday night. Gonzalez hit an RBI triple off Mike Hampton with one out in the fourth and slid hard into third base. After Kevin Kouzmanoff struck out, Gonzalez was visited by manager Bud Black and head trainer Todd Hutcheson, who examined Gonzalez's right knee.
Jake Peavy's injured right ankle was re-examined Tuesday, and the San Diego Padres ace could get his protective boot off in about two weeks. Peavy, the 2007 NL Cy Young Award winner, has been on the disabled list since June 13 with a strained tendon. He was injured running the bases against the Chicago Cubs in late May.

The Houston Astros' ace dominated the San Diego Padres again, pitching a two-hitter and retiring his final 18 batters in a 3-1 victory Monday night. The San Diego Padres are following the New York Yankees onto the Internet with live local-market video broadcasts. The Padres, Cox Communications San Diego and MLB Advanced Media announced an agreement Monday that starts broadcasts July 16 for customers of Cox's high speed Internet service. It will cost $49.95 for the rest of the season or $19.95 for any 30-day period, matching the price for...
The Lake Elsinore Storm and High Desert Mavericks combined for 51 runs and 57 hits in a California League game Sunday, won 33-18 by the Storm. Lake Elsinore, a Single-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres scored eight runs in the first inning, six runs in the eighth and had two five-run innings. A story on High Desert's Web site, attributed to MiLB.com, said the 51 runs beat the old league record...
