York Mets Information
- New York
Mets Information The New York Mets are a Major League Baseball
team in the borough of Queens in New York.
- They were
founded in 1962 as a National League Expansion team. Their home
stadium, Shea Stadium, is in Flushing, New York. The first game
played in Shea Stadium was on April 17, 1964. Construction of
the stadium took about 29 months and the entire cost was $28.5
million. The New York Mets uniforms are black, blue, and orange.
- The Mets
have won a total of four Division titles in 1963, 1973, 1986 and
1988. They have also won four National League pennants in 1969,
1973, 1986, and 2000. In addition, they won the World Series Championship
Title in 1969 and 1986.
- Buy Mets
Tickets 2002 : The Mets signed Free Agent Roger Cedeño,
and traded for Roberto Alomar, OF Jermomy Burnitz, and 1B Mo Vaughn.
These decisions were made to assist their offense which struggled
the season before. Unfortunately, the Mets ended up repeating
the 1992 season. They also encountered a few obstacles off the
field, which included rumors that catcher Mike Piazza was gay.
The season continued to fall apart and plummeted in August when
the team went winless at home losing 13 straight games all together.
Finally, in September the Mets finished in last place with a disappointing
75-86 record.
- The rumors
continued, this time about Marijuana use among the team. Due to
such a humiliating year the Mets fired Manager Bobby Valentine
and replaced him with Art Howe. 2003: Hoping to start off the
year right the Mets started Free Agent Tom Glavine on Opening
Day. Unfortunately, the Mets got pounded by the Chicago Cubs 15-2.
Roberto Alomar and Mo Vaughn continued to struggle throughout
the season.
- That May
Mike Piazza suffered a serious groin injury. The Mets settled
into last place and the franchise decided to alter their direction.
Vaughn got a degenerative knee condition which ended his career,
while Burnitz, Benitez, and Alomar were traded for prospects.
Then, the Mets top prospect, Jose Reyes, joined the team. He brought
much light to the team and was instantly loved by the fans. Cliff
Floyd, who was also highly respected by fans, was an asset to
the team before having surgery in August. In addition, the Mets
lost Reyes to an ankle injury the next month. They finished the
season in last place with a record of 66-95. Furthermore, Bob
Murphy, their announcer, retired after 41 seasons with the Mets.
2004: The Mets made a good decision to bring David Wright up to
the Majors instead of trading him. Richard Hidalgo was another
asset to the Mets team this season. Both were credible players
who helped the team immensely. Unfortunately, the Mets gave away
many top prospects for this season. The Mets also lost Victor
Zambano to any injury. Even with future Hall of Famer, Mike Piazza,
the Mets still remain unsuccessful. On a positive note they improved
by five games over their upsetting 2003 season. Even though their
offense improved, their pitching declined in contrast to past
years. Richard Hidalgo and Mike Cameron were improvements to the
Mets outfield.
- Throughout
the 2004 season, the New York Mets played 162 games and ended
up winning 71 games and losing 91 games.

Mets Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)<p><p>The Mets have a chance to erase three months of mediocre baseball with a hot weekend at Philadelphia.</p>
<p>On June 27, the Mets began a 12-game stretch David Wright said could define their season: four games each against the Yankees, St. Louis and Philadelphia.</p>
<p>They began it a game below .500 and four games out of first place.</p>
<p>"I said this was a very important stretch for us," Wright said. "If we take care of business, we can be where we want to be. ... We have to go in there and do what has to be done."</p>
<p>Manager Jerry Manuel has a sense the Mets are starting to improve. He senses a more aggressive attitude, beginning with the offense.</p>
<p>"No question, this is a significant series," said Manuel.
Jackson gives D-backs improbable victory (AP)The NL West has been a jumbled mess of teams who can't seem to take control. Leading the division almost by default, the Arizona Diamondbacks finally showed in the ninth inning Thursday that somebody has some life. Conor Jackson bounced a two-run single through Milwaukee's drawn-in infield, capping an improbable six-run rally to give Arizona a 6-5 victory over the Brewers and setting off a wild...

Castillo placed on DL with strained hip flexor (AP)Luis Castillo played the ninth inning as part of a double switch Wednesday night after the New York Mets had determined the second baseman would be placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained hip flexor. That half-inning of defense in an 8-7 loss to the Cardinals will sideline the three-time Gold Glove winner and All-Star until at least the first game after the All-Star break.

Mets keep Pedro Martinez on regular rest (AP)New York Mets interim manager Jerry Manuel wants Pedro Martinez to get into a groove, so he's keeping him on regular rest Wednesday while giving younger Mike Pelfrey an extra day.
