Information The American League Seattle Mariners played their
first game in 1977 at The Kingdome which was their old Arena that
was retired in 1999.
Safeco Field
was opened on July15, 1999. Safeco Field is located on 1st Ave.
South, Seattle WA. The naming right for the stadium was sold to
Seattle-based Safeco Corporation for $40 million. The stadium
has a sitting capacity of 47, 116 and the field surface is grass.
The teams most recent logo was created in 1993 the “Nautical
Compass Rose” This logo stands for the sea, technology,
and the great outdoors.
All of which
reflect the great Pacific Northwest. Their team colors are Navy,
Silver, and Teal. 2003 Bob Melvin became the new team Manager.
He retired Lou Piniella from the team in 2002, who has had control
of them since 1993. They have made 3 appearances in the LCS 1995,
2000, and 2001. They were the Division Champions in 1995, 1997,

In the past 10 seasons the Mariners have been a pennant contender
in the American League West. For the 2004 Season unfortunately
started off slow, losing their first five games. Finishing in
last place sad to say they were never able to pick it back up.
However the 2004 season for right fielder Ichiro Suzuki was one
that went down in history. It brought the attention of all baseball
fans around the world. May, July, and August he had at least 50
hits per month. On Oct. 1st he hit his 257th and 258th hits of
the season at Safeco Field breaking the 84-year-old hit record.
It was once held by George Sisler since 1920 with 257 hits in
154 games. On August 9th 2004, Edgar Martinez made an announcement
he would retire at the end of the regular season. It was an emotional
farewell. Matinez ended his 22-year playing career with 1,258
RBI’s, 2,240 hits and 308 home runs.
The Seattle Mariners appear interested in signing another pitcher for the 2012 roster. According to Geoff Baker of The Seattle Times, the Mariners are looking closely at former Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Hong-Chih Kuo. He even went as far as alluding that a signing is close...

The big move for the Mariners this winter was trading right-handed starting pitcher Michael Pineda to the Yankees for New York's top prospect, catcher Jesus Montero.

Montero, 22, is going to play a lot, but there seems to be no chance that he will supplant veteran Miguel Olivo as the starting catcher.

General manager Jack Zduriencik and manager Eric Wedge both seem to see Olivo as not just the starter but as a mentor for Montero, a slugger who comes to Seattle with scouts questioning his ability as a defender.

Olivo, appearing at the club's annual FanFest on Jan. 28, said he welcomed the addition, although he doesn't figure to catch quite as many times as he did last year, when he made a career-high 127 appearances behind the plate.
The Seattle Mariners have a number of question marks heading into 2012 Spring Training when it comes to the starting rotation. Everyone knows that Felix Hernandez is the ace of the rotation and that he is going to take on the No.
With the advent of the new wild card round and the one-game play-in still in discussion, I thought back to the top five play-in games from my lifetime (since 1969). These games counted on the regular seasons as Game 163 (except for 1995) as the teams involved went all-out to make...
The Major League Baseball playoffs are expanding. Commissioner Bud Selig wants two more wild card teams in the postseason in 2012. If the playoff format is successful, there may be more MLB teams on the way. As America's population grows and cities get bigger, expanding...
Commissioner Bud Selig wants expanded playoffs for Major League Baseball. Two more teams will be added as wild card entries to make 10 overall playoff teams in October. If the format works well, there may be more MLB teams on the way to expand the league to 32 teams.
The Seattle Mariners decided to bring back another familiar face on Wednesday (Feb. 1), signing former infielder Carlos Guillen to a new deal. He will likely get a chance to make the roster in 2012 Spring Training, possibly as a utility player coming off of the bench.
David Ortiz and the Boston Red Sox are likely headed to an arbitration hearing to determine the designated hitter's 2012 salary, according to an ESPN.com report. A hearing isn't scheduled for this week, leaving time to negotiate, the report said, citing a source.
Carlos Guillen is returning to Seattle after agreeing to a minor league contract with the Mariners. The 36-year-old spent the past eight seasons in Detroit where he was a three-time All-Star and hit .308 in his career with the Tigers playing five positions: left field, third base, shortstop, second base and first base.
If not for football, Tom Brady might have been Joe Mauer before Joe Mauer came along. Or at least a platoon partner for A.J. Pierzynski. Because it's Super Bowl week, writers will exhaust every possible angle on the New England … Continue reading →
Seattle Mariners fans can mark down some very important dates on the calendar as Fox revealed it is airing four games for the team in the 2012 MLB season. The full Mariners television schedule is out and it includes the two games in Japan that could become pretty difficult for...
Casper Wells is finally healthy and could become a big part of the Seattle Mariners offense in 2012. As you may recall, Wells was in the face by a Brandon Morrow fastball last August, creating a situation where he was seeing double and could just get his mind right for the rest of...
It appears that the Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics already have the starting rotation ready for the first series of the 2012 MLB season. The Seattle vs. Oakland series will actually take place during Spring Training and across the Pacific Ocean.
Former Seattle Mariners draft pick Matt Tuiasosopo has finally found a new job. I wrote back in September how the Mariners had decided to go in a different direction when the Triple-A season came to an end. The team made a number of call-ups, but decided that it was also time to...
The Seattle Mariners have a plan. Of course, I have to imagine that every team has some sort of plan or long-term strategy. Unfortunately, only a few teams get to participate in the playoffs and only one franchise gets to win each year.
The Seattle Mariners are heading into the final contract year of Ichiro Suzuki. The huge extension that he received from the Mariners comes to an end in 2012 when he will make $18 million. It puts the franchise into an unenviable position of trying to decide whether to re-sign the...
With spring training right around the corner, the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres will soon be headed to Peoria, Ariz., to prepare for the 2012 MLB season. With a plethora of Mexican restaurants in the area, it can be difficult to find the best.
Peoria, Ariz., is the spring training home of the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres. Home of Peoria Sports Complex, tickets for Mariners and Padres home spring training games range from $6-23 . Here's a look at some affordable hotels nearby the stadium to consider if...
Peoria is great because there is so much baseball to watch. During spring training, there is the opportunity to see both the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres play at the Peoria Sports Complex. After the game (or before) there is always going to be the need to eat.
Seattle general manager Jack Zduriencik remains extremely optimistic about the bounty of young talent the Mariners possess. He also knows the abundance of youth means another challenging season lies ahead in the Pacific Northwest. "I think we have some very talented young kids. I think this is going to be a challenging year at the big league level for us.
Seattle Mariners manager Eric Wedge has been hinting about taking Ichiro Suzuki out of the leadoff spot in the batting order, and on Thursday he made a stronger statement in that regard, saying he's "further down the road in leaning that direction to have Ichi hit...
Ichiro Suzuki might begin his final guaranteed season with the Seattle Mariners somewhere other than the leadoff spot that he's locked down for the past decade. Seattle manager Eric Wedge said Thursday during the Mariners' pre-spring training luncheon that he's leaning toward moving Suzuki out of the leadoff spot as a way to try to bolster the Mariners' anemic offense.
He may have started his career in Major League Baseball way back in 1989 with the Seattle Mariners, but Omar Vizquel is trying to prove that he still has something to offer the game. Vizquel agreed to a minor league contract with the Toronto Blue Jays this week, possibly gaining a...
Eric Wedge is seriously considering moving Ichiro Suzuki out of the leadoff spot for the Seattle Mariners in 2012. This would open up that spot for one of the younger players on the roster and Dustin Ackley almost seems like the obvious choice.
The annual Seattle Mariners FanFest takes place this weekend (Jan. 28-29) at Safeco Field. This is a great opportunity for fans to meet some of the best players on the Mariners roster as well as the new up-and-coming prospects in the minor league system.
